- Our species for hundreds of years had to do v v v hard shit to survive, all the time, with NO safety nets.
- Most of us live in a very narrow comfort zone, with NO idea what exists on the edges of our potential. When you explore the edges, you grow tremendously. Misogi repeats this process.
- Misogi must:
- Stretch a persons limit (50:50 chance of failure)
- Have a clear goal
- People vastly overestimate the consequences of failure today. We are programmed to do this as in the past, failure would often have meant death/exclusion from your society.
- Solitude - building the capacity to be alone makes your interactions with others richer
- Unfocused model is mind-wandering, rest state that restores + rebuilds resources to work better + more efficiently in focused state
- Unstructured creativity of nature is amazing for the brain
- Cleansed silence is purifying
- We’re wired to crave calorie-dense food, from hunter-gatherer scarce food days
- Bhutan - embrace + actively think about death often, to appreciate + take risk.
